Tis the season for giving; and shopping. Once the January transfer window opens, we could say “tis the season for loaning.”
Here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumor stories that have been circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere and media world, as we’re four days from Christmas and less than two weeks from the opening of the winter transfer window.
Remember when Anthony Martial arrived with authority in September of 2015 and set the world on fire?
It seems like kind of a false dawn right now as the Frenchman has seen his playing time, and hence scoring diminish this season. Also, do you recall this past February when Marcus Rashford exploded on the scene, and was deemed the next big thing?
Well, this season has been a totally different story for Rashford, as he’s also (like Martial) been vastly overshadowed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The larger than life Swede has become United’s main scorer, and it’s opened up the idea that Martial, or Rashford, if not both, could be moving on, via a loan deal, to a different team where they could be the alpha dog.
Not gonna happen in January, says ESPN FC, as the club:
will not consider any loan enquiries from West Ham United for either Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial, sources close to the Old Trafford club have told ESPN FC.
West Ham are actively looking to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window and they have put Rashford and Martial on their list, according to the Daily Telegraph, after seeing the pair lose their spots in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up.
When it comes to holiday shopping, United Manager Jose Mourinho says he’s only buying one player this upcoming window.
“If we buy a player we buy a player, we’re not buying two, three or four,” he told Sky Sports News; transcript Daily Mirror, who claim that player will be Benfica Defender Victor Lindelof.
“I believe more in the summer market than in the winter window. More time, more choice, I think it’s better. But let’s see what happens.”
The Mirror says that Lindelof is Mourinho’s top target this January, and cites a story where the defender reveals to friends that a £38m switch is close to being agreed upon.
