United’s Juan Mata, David De Gea make Spain World Cup final cut

The defending World Cup champions have named their 23 man roster for the 2014 Tournament in Rio. Spain’s squad includes Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata and goalkeeper David De Gea. United supporters will be doubly pleased, make that quadruply pleased by the announcement of the final roster for the Spanish side because Manchester City pair Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas were left out.

So viewing the Spain roster is a pleasant experience for the red side Manchester; not so much for the blue side.

Juan Mata didn’t have the impact at Old Trafford that many had hoped. He was certainly an overpriced buy from Chelsea by David Moyes, but he can still bring it. You saw that goal Juan Mata scored versus Southampton in the Premier League season finale. Mata was probably misused by Moyes at United, and unfairly benched by Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. He can still really flourish when given the right opportunity.

Vaya con dios with Espana.

Negredo and Navas were left disappointed, along with Fernando Llorente (Juventus), Ander Iturraspe (Athletic Bilbao), Alvaro Moreno (Sevilla) and Daniel Carvajal (Real Madrid).
