Jonathan Toews scores 2 pts, but Hawks lose on Toews bobblehead night

Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist tonight. Not mention a shootout goal to boot, but defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored the decisive goal in the sixth round of a shootout as the St. Louis Blues came back to defeat Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks.

With the tiebreaker knotted 3-3, Shattenkirk beat Corey Crawford with a wrist shot high on the goalie’s left side. Captain Serious and the Blackhawks really should have won this game; especially when considering the 36-22 shots on goal disparity. Crawford had a good game, but Toews was the only one of the “three stars” from Chicago.

And on Jonathan Toews bobblehead night too. Toews fought off two Blues defenders to tie the game 1-1 on a rebound at 3:18 of the second, just 19 seconds after Chicago had killed a penalty. Toews also set up Saad’s goal that made it 2-1 just 2:27 later.

Toews was the main Blackhawks storyline in this one, overshadowing the return of Marian Hossa. “Hoss” had four shots on goal and one deflection, going +2 for the night versus the Blues. But Tazer was the Blackhawks player who almost got it for them. Chicago sports side notes: the United Center jumbotron showed that Paul Konerko from the White Sox was in attendance. Bears defensive back Tim Jennings did the shoot-the-puck.

It was the first Blackhawks hockey game I’ve been to in three or four years; helping to rekindle my interest- I need something to write about when college basketball ends! And college football spring practice is…..uhm no, I’m not going to be going too intense on that.

The best Blackhawks blog I’ve recently started following is Hawk Crazy
