Today in “possibly reading too much into a footballer’s social media post” news, we have an Instagram offering from Radja Nainggolan. The AS Roma midfielder has been linked to Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan this summer, with United being the rumor that’s garnered the most momentum. There have been reports that Old Trafford are willing to spend £40 million in order to acquire his signature.

Calciomercato claimed that “Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan are eagerly awaiting Roma’s final decision as they consider making offers for the Belgium international.”

Gazzetta dello Sport also reported that United Manager Jose Mourinho has made Nainggolan a summer target. Amidst these narratives the Belgian posted this photo below on Instagram, with the caption “Thinking about what to do?? ????”

Thinking about what to do?? ?????

Nainggolan obviously knew that posting this would attract a ton of attention, given the inclusion of the “LOOK!” and “deep pondering” emojis. He was proven correct as the post has accrued over 51,000 likes, 1,600 comments and counting. This is what the footy world does in the summer, when it’s both the off-season and the transfer rumor silly season, overanalyze what’s on player social media accounts.

Perhaps Nainggolan was just thinking about what he wanted to do next after he got out of the pool, and not thinking about what club he wants to play for.

roma

Only he himself knows for sure, but there have been reports in the Italian media that Roma have offered him a new contract and more lucrative contract extension, and that he’s on the verge of signing it.  So it’s possible he might not be going anywhere after all.
