Chelsea was able to finish off Leicester City 2-1 in extra time tonight, and with that result, complete the quarterfinal round of the FA Cup. Once the Sunday evening clash between the sides that comprise the last three Premier League title winners was complete, the FA Cup semi-final draw was held.
The results: Manchester United will face Tottenham, and Chelsea were drawn against Southampton.
The semifinal round will take place April 21 and 22, at Wembley Stadium. For all four of these clubs, it will be their last chance at a trophy this season. Therefore, you should definitely expect to see each manager field his strongest side in these last three clashes.
The last time Tottenham and United clashed in the national stadium, the result was a resounding 2-0 win by Spurs on Jan. 31. Spurs have been using Wembley as their home ground this season, while the new White Hart Lane is being constructed, and they have certainly established a really nice home field advantage. Tottenham haven’t lost at Wembley since August.
The team that beat them, Chelsea will approach their semifinal clash against Southampton with a sense of urgency. Manager Antonio Conte’s seat is warm, and nothing cools that like a trophy. For Saints, they have already sacked managers this season, but winning this tournament would be a bright spot in a very dark season that has seen them fighting to stay up in the top flight.
