Tottenham Starting XI Prediction vs Southampton FC (FA Cup Replay)

Tottenham Hotspur hosts Southampton FC in a FA Cup fourth round replay Wednesday night that will mark the fourth meeting this season between the two sides. It’s been a very evenly matched series in 2019-20 with the home side winning the Premier League fixture by one goal each time.

Obviously, the reverse fixture in the FA Cup ended in a stalemate and hence we’re here for the replay, making it so that Spurs and Saints each have a win, a loss and a draw against one another this term. Spurs are coming off a high into this one having beaten the juggernaut that is Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday. They’re brimming with confidence right now so let’s take a look at what kind of team Jose Mourinho might field as he looks to get his side through to the fifth round.

Tottenham vs Southampton Team News (FA Cup): Alli, Bergwijn, Armstrong

dele alli

Steven Bergwijn announced his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur with authority, making his presence felt immediately by scoring the game winning goal yesterday against Manchester City. The January transfer window addition has become an immediate fan favorite in the process, but he is ineligible for Spurs’ match, Wednesday night at home against Southampton FC in the FA Cup.

That’s because this is a fourth round replay, and FA Cup rules state a player must have been available in the first tie in order to feature in the replay. He won’t be the only key player absent, as midfielder Dele Alli is a slight doubt, having been the recipient of a really severe tackle from Raheem Sterling on Sunday.

Liverpool FC Starting XI Prediction, Team News vs Southampton FC

The Liverpool juggernaut rolls on, as they’re now 19 points up on everyone else in the league title race; having now played and won their game in hand. Up next they’ll host their de facto farm club, Southampton FC, who have come on really strong in midseason.

For Saints, the 9-0 humbling by Leicester City seems to have been their wake up as they won the reverse fixture and vaulted up the table. It wasn’t long ago they were in the relegation scrap, now they’re in the top half of the table. They face very long odds at Anfield, even despite the Reds missing some key players tomorrow.

As we enter into the final hours of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been pretty busy, both with incomings and out-goings. Yesterday saw Spurs bring in their second addition (after Gedson Fernandes) with the pick-up of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Steven Bergwijn.

We’re also seeing the clear-out of surplus players (as well as those who just don’t want to be here) too. Kyle Walkers-Peters joined Christian Eriksen (Inter Milan) in heading out the exit door. The 22-year-old, who can play on either side in the back line on the outside has joined Southampton FC on loan for the remainder of the season. And Danny Rose has just finalized a loan move to Newcastle United.

Spurs Star Harry Kane Injured in Loss at Southampton FC

Adding injury to insult, Tottenham Hotspur lost more than a game on this New Year’s Day. Falling 1-0 at Southampton FC today, Jose Mourinho suffered an embarrassment against a side that has consistently been in the relegation scrap.

He also saw his talisman and superstar, English striker Harry Kane, hobble out of the game in the 74′. Kane thought he had equalized on the play that saw him get hurt, but the temporary goal was ruled offside. Have a watch below:

Tottenham vs Southampton Team News: Winks, Son, Davies, Long, Obafemi

As 2019 turns to 2020, Jose Mourinho has Tottenham Hotspur on the upswing, having added a cutting edge to the side that was missing this campaign before he got there. And while they’re refocused again, there is still a ton of work to do.

They really miss their captain and No. 1 Hugo Lloris, who remains out for the New Year’s Day clash at Southampton FC. Defenders Danny Rose and Ben Davies remain out as well while Heung-min Son will continue serving his suspension. Meanwhile Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko are back available for selection, having missed out on the weekend draw with Norwich City due to suspension.

Chelsea FC Starting XI Prediction vs Southampton FC

Chelsea have certainly had some inconsistent results lately, but they’re still holding down the fort in the final top four slot. The Blues are five points ahead of fifth place Sheffield United, six up on Tottenham Hotspur, seven clear of Manchester United and nine more than arch-rivals Arsenal.

It’s going to be very difficult for anyone to catch the top three of Liverpool, Leicester City and Manchester City, who are on a different level this season, but the race for the fourth and final Champions League qualification slot will be fiercely contested.

Chelsea vs Southampton Team News: Azpilicueta, Loftus-Cheek, Long

Last weekend saw student best his teacher as Chelsea manager Frank Lampard beat Jose Mourinho tactically, and his Blues beat his old boss’ new side Tottenham 2-0 on the pitch. Chelsea dominated a match that was overshadowed by events off the pitch.

It was all triggered by Son’s aggressive challenge on Antonio Rudiger, which elicited racist abuse of the Blues defender by some Spurs supporters, and Mourinho calling him out for what was in his mind simulation on the play. Lampard hit back at Mourinho yesterday, and now the two big six managers, who are close friends, find themselves in a war of words.

Arsenal Draws Against Southampton, Unai Emery Sack Speculation Increasing

A home game against Southampton FC, the league’s penultimate side, you got this Arsenal FC, right? We know the Gunners are super strong at home, and hosting the team with the league’s worst goal differential, it’s a no doubter, right?

Well, actually not, and today’s 2-2 draw, in which Southampton really dropped two points in the final minute, gave the #EmeryOut crowd more material than they’ll ever need to work with. Arsenal manager Unai Emery’s seat had been warming already, but now it’s absolutely scorching as Arsenal managed just a draw against what had been arguably the league’s worst team this season.

Arsenal vs Southampton FC Team News: Ceballos, Kolasinac, Obafemi

The Gunners may be dominating in the UEFA Europa League, but in Premier League competition they’re absolutely sputtering. Arsenal has taken just two points out of a possible 12 since an October 6 home win over AFC Bournemouth.

As for Southampton, their last win, of any sort, was the 4-0 routing of arch-rivals Portsmouth back on September 24. That’s a League One (the third tier of English football) side by the way. Saints head into this one in 19th place, and sporting the worst goal differential, -18, in the entire top flight. Arsenal, however, are eight points adrift of the top four, so they need a win pretty badly too.

Manchester City vs Southampton FC Starting XI Predictions, Team News

Here we go, the second of this week’s Southampton FC at Manchester City double. The hosts took the first match, an EFL Cup round of 16 clash on Wednesday night, 3-1. It’s obviously a much more respectable scoreline than the 9-0 throttling at the hands of Leicester City in Saints’ last league fixture.

Southampton did the right thing in donating their wages from that day to charity, and maybe that reckoning, and realization, could be a turning point in their season? The south coast club currently resides in the relegation zone, a place they have often found themselves in during the past couple seasons, but in the end they escaped the dreaded drop.
