Man United Fear that Pursuing Cristiano Ronaldo Could Impede Alvaro Morata Deal

Before the Cristiano Ronaldo news broke, it was actually Alvaro Morata who was the dominant storyline in the Manchester United and Real Madrid news worlds. There were reports that Morata was nearing a deal to join United, but today those claims have been proven to be too presumptive.

Getting back to CR7, he is furious right now, to the point he wishes to leave Spain, a country where he stands accused of defrauding tax authorities to the tune of €14.7m.

Ronaldo’s discontent has sent the entire transfer rumors “reporting” world into a tizzy, with stories popping up linking him to Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

However, today brought a report from the self-ascribed “World Wide Leader” in Bristol, who claim:

Manchester United are treating reports that Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo would welcome a return with caution amid concerns that the uncertainty surrounding him could delay a move for Alvaro Morata, sources have told ESPN FC.

But sources said United were yet to be convinced that Ronaldo is prepared to walk away from the Bernabeu.

The worry here is that Real would not be willing to be part with both Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata, and the latter fills a much more important need for United right now. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic not coming back, United need a new striker and they’ve already dropped the idea of pursuing Antoine Griezmann, their initial primary summer target.

Morata is the new #1 striker target, and more realistic deal, and that’s important because Mourinho has stated in the past that he wasn’t going to go all in for huge name, big money transfers that would be complicated to accomplish.

Ronaldo is the number one earning athlete in the entire world, so transferring him is about as complicated as a deal could get.
