Liverpool will return four key players from injury this week

Liverpool haven’t gotten any better under Jurgen Klopp than they were under Brendan Rodgers. Of course, it’s still too early to make a full judgment on Klopp yet. Give him time and we’ll see what he can do. Klopp made a couple additions this January transfer window and tried to make a third signing (Alex Teixeira), but got priced out.

So don’t expect any big deals to come through at the last minutes this deadline day. No, today’s major Liverpool news revolves around fitness, not transfers.

The Reds will return four key players from injury when they train on Wednesday.

Klopp said that Daniel Sturridge is expected to be back, along with Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel. Like every other team, Liverpool has been ravaged by injuries. Getting closer to full fitness should make a big difference, but we’ll see.

“Closer,” Klopp responded when pressed about the health of a few guys on his roster.

“They are close to a return to training. Martin needs two or three days more. Divock and Phil and maybe Daniel should return to training [this week].”

“Daniel on Wednesday, the other two guys on Thursday. Martin I think on the weekend.”

Sturridge is a tremendous talent (with one of the best goal celebration dances around too), but he just can’t stay healthy. He should be a franchise cornerstone in attack for Liverpool moving forward, but who knows how much longer they can still have faith in his staying healthy enough to remain on the pitch.

The Reds travel to King Power Stadium to take on surprise powerhouse Leicester City in Premier League action. On Saturday, they’ll return home for a fixture against Sunderland.
