The Liverpool FC summer transfer window is now finally starting to come alive. We had an exclusive interview last week with Ian Rush, and during the Q&A the clubs’s all-time leading scorer said that he expects Anfield to make a couple signings this summer.
A couple days later, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said his club, as well as any other elite club, must spend big in order to get/remain relevant. Well, LFC’s first signing of the summer is now finally here and it’s Sepp van den Berg, a 17-year-old PEC Zwolle central defender, who was sought after by Bayern Munich, Ajax and Sampdoria, among others.
The finishing touches on this deal, including his medical and promotional photos, are expected to come Wednesday. Go here for more on him.
Elsewhere, reports that back-up goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could be on the move to Crystal Palace aren’t accurate claim ESPN’s “sources” inside the club. Mignolet, who is definitely not going to be seeing the pitch much in meaningful contests as long as Alisson Becker is around, has attracted the interest of the London club, with talk of an £8 million deal in the works.
And finally, Liverpool are calling some reports in France “FAKE NEWS!” as they are reportedly furious about the idea of their being used as leverage to drive up the price of lille striker Nicolas Pepe.
That’s what agents do! They plant stories, in this case narratives that have been denounced by LFC as “pure lies,” about supposed interest in the media in order to drive up the transfer fees.
Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards has reportedly informed the club that the Merseysiders have “zero interest” in the Ivory Coast international.
Pepe, who is supposedly already valued at £70 million, is thought to be a target of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.
