It took extra time, and then even a penalty shootout on top of it, but Liverpool have beaten Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup. The match ended as a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time, before going to penalties, with the end finally coming when Tammy Abraham‘s shot was saved by Adrian.

The Blues youngster was denied by the Reds backup shot-stopper, but the play was not without controversy. Have a look below:

Should Tammy Abraham have been allowed to retake his penalty?

It’s a brutal moment for Abraham and Chelsea, but at least they can take some solace in the fact that they improved massively from their disaster at Old Trafford on Sunday.

For Liverpool, it’s the second trophy of the Jurgen Klopp era, and a glorious moment when you consider just how awful this preseason was. And the man of the match for Liverpool just also happened to be the player who came back from international duty last and re-integrated into the team late- Sadio Mane.

The forward bagged a brace, providing yet another example of how little the preseason actually means. For Chelsea, their goals came via Olivier Giroud and Jorginho. The first scoring strike was assisted by Christian Pulisic, who made his first start and had a goal of his own disallowed.

The play of the game however, might not have been any of the four goals, but instead this double nutmeg by Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool next visits Southampton on Saturday while Chelsea hosts Leicester City on Sunday, for the upcoming Premier League weekend.
