Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool FC to 97 points this season, but it was only good enough for a 2nd place finish in the 2018/19 Premier League. That’s because Manchester City, who successfully defended their league title, finished with 98. In any other season Jurgen Klopp would be hoisting the silverware, and LFC supporters would have seen their long top flight title drought (1990) come to an end.
Liverpool absolutely smashed the record for runner-up points accumulated, as their 97 is eight ahead of 2011-12 Manchester United, who finished with 89. Here in the video below, Klopp speaks to Sky Sports, and his overall message is “we’ll go again!”
As the host there pointed out, Liverpool finished with the Golden Glove award (Alisson), joint Golden Boot Award winners (Reds forwards Sadio Mane and Mo Salah shared it with Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) and an incredible goal differential (+67).
Their central defender, Virgil van Dijk, won both the PFA and Premier League Player of the Year award. However, there is still no team trophy in the Klopp era. The final opportunity to win one will come June 1 in Madrid, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the UCL final.
