Liverpool routed their de facto farm club Southampton 3-0 today and there are heroes aplenty for the Reds. Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri are both top ten trending terms nationally on Twitter right now, due to the big contributions they made to a dominant overall team effort.

The scoring opened when Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt provided an own goal in the 10′. Matip then converted this beauty in the  the 21′. Have a watch below:

Given all the harsh criticism, from all angles that Liverpool defenders have been hit with in recent years…you got to love this tweet below:

As for Shaqiri, he is not credited with a goal today, but man does he deserve one (or even more given the elite performance he turned in today) Watch below as Shaqiri is about as unlucky as it gets here with the crossbar, and then Mohamed Salah bangs it home. Salah really needed this one.

Liverpool Twitter is in fine form today.

The big win puts Liverpool back atop the table, pending the result of tomorrow’s London derby between Chelsea and West Ham United.
