The Newcastle United injury list pretty much never shrinks. It only grows and grows, as Joelinton and Fabian Schar became the most recent additions to the group yesterday.

Both players had to be subbed off, due to muscular injuries, in the win over Fulham on Saturday.

Thus, you would have to say that both players would be considered doubts here for the midweek EFL Cup Quarterfinal round clash against Chelsea. Although you could easily call this the Very Long Injury List Cup.

Kieran Trippier, who is battling a knock of some sort,  and Alexander Isak, who is dealing with a groin problem, also face a race against the clock to be fit for this match.

Elsewhere Lewis Hall, is still technically a Chelsea player, so he won’t be eligible to face his parent club while Sandro Tonali is suspended for the rest of the term, due to his gambling infractions.

And then finally, you have that extensive list of longer-term injury absentees: Elliot Anderson (back), Nick Pope (shoulder), Joe Willock (calf), Harvey Barnes (ankle), Jacob Murphy (shoulder), Matt Targett (thigh) and Javier Manquillo (groin).
