Chelsea FC are closing in on their first signing of the summer and it’s AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger. The report, picked up by both The Guardian and The Sun, originated with Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and GianlucaDiMarzio.com
Here is the tweet below in which he first broke the news:

The deal, which will reportedly keep Rudiger at Stamford Bridge until 2022, is worth £29 million.
Romano also works for The Guardian, and his byline, along with fellow journalist Ed Aarons, appears on the article linked here and excerpted below:
Roma had been holding out for €45m for a player they signed from Stuttgart last summer after he had impressed on a season-long loan. After rejecting Chelsea’s opening bid of €35m, Roma have accepted a package that means Chelsea pay an initial €33m (£29m) with an extra €5m (£4.3m) in bonus payments.
Rudiger is currently on international duty with Germany, and they’re set to face Chile on Sunday in the Confederations Cup Final. Once the tournament is over, Antonio Rudiger will be free to complete his medical. The report states that Rudiger is scheduled to fly to London to get that accomplished next week.
It should be a very interesting and extremely busy summer transfer window at the Bridge, and this is just the beginning. The Blues have already parted ways with a few players, as we’ve seen some departures. Now they’re beginning the process of additions.
