Anthony Martial to Juventus Transfer Rumors Heating Up

Talented but underused forward Anthony Martial faces an uncertain future at Manchester United, due to questions surrounding his role with the team. Martial started the season off in fine form, being very productive in both starting and super sub roles, but since Alexis Sanchez arrived in the January transfer window his playing time and scoring has dwindled.

There have been reports claiming that United manager Jose Mourinho has promised a chance to play his preferred central forward role next season, instead of being placed out wide, but other narratives indicate a potential move to Chelsea.

Some outlets have claimed that such a move could only happen if it’s part of a swap deal, with Willian (long admired by Mourinho) going the other way. Today’s Anthony Martial transfer narrative actually links him to Juventus, not Stamford Bridge, as an Italian outlet claims Mourinho has approved the sale.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported today that Mourinho has given Martial the green light to join the Serie A powerhouse this summer transfer window. This narrative has been picked up by many outlets in the British press.

The Daily Express references reports claiming that “Ed Woodward is a huge admirer of the player and wants him to stay,” but Mourinho is in the driver seat.

Metro says that Mourinho “is said to be at the end of his tether with Martial and is refusing to wait for the Frenchman to mature into the player that United thought they were signing in 2015.”

Martial was given a rare start Friday night against Brighton, but, along with Marcus Rashford, failed to impress. This led to Mourinho publicly blasting his fringe players, and his attack. The Special One said this this game perfectly exhibited his reasons for always choosing to select Romelu Lukaku over other options.
