USC To Face Major Post-Season Ban?

June 9, 2010 By paulmbanks

It would appear that major trouble is headed the way of the USC Trojans.

Amidst all of the talk of expansion — and of, get this, a 16 team Pac-10 — it would appear that the Trojans are headed for major sanctions before the end of the week.

ESPN’s college football recruiting insider, Bruce Feldman, tweeted late Wednesday night:

“USC has been hit with a two-year post-season ban in addition to the loss of scholarships, among other penalties from the NCAA”

The scholarship loss was self imposed by the school, and the post-season ban isn’t necessarily surprising. What will be interesting is to see what exactly “other penalties” means.

Season forfeitures, including any National Titles?

Maybe…Reggie Bush’s Heisman?

Perhaps Pete Carroll will get a must-show clause put into his contract — similar to Todd Bozeman and Ralph Sampson — that if a team wants to hire him in the next ten years that they will have to show reasons why they should be allowed to hire the coach.

All in all, there is nothing groundbreaking yet. But coupling USC sanctions with MAJOR conference realignment before the weekend (reportedly, Colorado already has their Pac-10 invite and Nebraska to the Big Ten is all but a done deal), this may be one of the most important and controversial weeks in college football history that didn’t involve actual, you know, games.

And it does seem like the ban is a done deal, and while the other coming penalties will surely make us all giggle…does it compare to a picture of the Songbirds??

No. Of course it doesn’t.
