Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd Seeks to Put Offseason Drama Behind Him

If storyline #1 surrounding Notre Dame football this preseason is who will be the #1 quarterback?, as senior Dayne Crist battles sophomore Tommy Rees for the coveted QB1 gig, then storyline #2 is Michael Floyd and his reinstatement back into the program.

Floyd led the team last season with 79 receptions for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns but was suspended after his third alcohol-related offense this past spring. (Or at least what is spring on the calendar, if not in weather. It freakin SNOWED at the spring game this year, held on April 14th)

Floyd worked his way out of college football purgatory and back onto the team. Still, it’s safe to say that his conduct makes him metaphorically batting with an 0-2 count. Probably, an 0-2 count with numerous pitches fouled off, which I know is the same exact thing as an 0-2 count, but the point is, Floyd needs to be on his best behavior this season.

And he’s ready to move on.

“The past is the past. I’ve moved on to the future, so I’m not even thinking about what happened anymore. I just have to make sure that the decisions I make are good because they are going to follow me forever,” Floyd said at ND media day.

He also articulated that he currently feels a sense of normalcy.

“It does. This time of year, I can just focus on schoolwork and football now. It helps me move on from the past. It feels good to know that I can put that behind me now and focus on school and football,” he said.

Floyd is on the Biletnikoff Award watch list, which honors the best WR in the nation.

“I didn’t know that; for me personally I don’t look at that kidn of stuff, I just let it go, and whatever happens happens,” Floyd said about the designation.

He’s also on pace to break numerous school receiving records this season. But one shouldn’t don’t expect him to talk much about those either.

“I don’t even know what they are. I never look at things like that. Whatever happens, happens. I am just trying to win games for Notre Dame and this team.”
