It’s entirely possible that this current Notre Dame football team can replicate what they accomplished in 2012- winning with defense, just enough offense, luck, smoke and mirrors. Through three games the #8 Fighting Irish are undefeated, but unimpressive in two of those three victories.
They may be able to keep going along this season with the current status quo, and get to the college football playoff, but that’s far from likely as the schedule will get tougher in October. In order for the Irish to rise to the occasion and become as formidable an opponent as those appearing on their schedule down the line, they need to solve their offensive issues.
Both Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly and starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush have labeled their problems on offense as trouble “finding an identity.”

Eventually, Wimbush will have to find more consistency as a passer. Otherwise this Irish team just won’t ascend up the ladder and reach their first playoff appearance in the brief history of the current system. Eventually, there will come a point where the Wimbush over-analysis and meta-analysis will be completely pointless.
The Notre Dame football community may need to reach a point, and this is probably not too far in the distant future that Wimbush is who he is. There will need to be an acceptance that this is what Wimbush can and can’t do, and this is how far the Irish can and cannot go with him running the show.
