Former Northwestern Wildcats, and current Indianapolis Colts Defensive Tackle John Gill likely won’t play in the NFL this season, and could see his pro career in serious jeopardy. For backup, marginal players like Gill, getting caught doing dumb, illegal stuff like this is especially damaging. That’s because now teams operate under NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s conduct policy, which legislates morality.
Teams will work around star players who get in trouble, not so much for guys barely in the league.
According to the AP:
Team president Bill Polian said Monday that he expects the NFL to place Gill in a roster category that would keep him inactive this season.
Gill was arrested early Sunday after Indianapolis police found him passed out in a ditch. A police report said Gill tried to stand but kept falling over.
The 23-year-old Gill was released from jail after the charge was dropped. Gill played in two games as a rookie with the Colts last season.
