Oklahoma State Heading to Pac 10

“THAT’S NOT TRUE! SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT” Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy yelled during his famous tirade three years ago.

But this is actually likely true. Ok St. is heading to the Pac-10 (which will soon become the Pac-16)

“THAT’S WHY I DON’T READ NEWSPAPERS!! CUZ THEY’RE GARBAGE!”

Gundy also said. But this doesn’t come to us via the old guard medium. It comes to us from one of our favorite sources of info for this site. TMZ.com

Here’s what it said in the TMZ blurb

A source in the OK State athletic department tells TMZ Sports the move is a “done deal.” The Pac-10 just made it official that Colorado is also jumping off the Big 12 ship.

We’re told it’s “just a matter of time” before the OK State announcement is also made. It’s been rumored that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M will also join the new super conference.

“YOU WANT TO GO AFTER ONE OF MY ATHLETES….” Gundy exclaimed in ’07. Actually no, the Pac-10 is going after all of your athletes, not just one of them- but this is in a good way!

The final line of the TMZ piece states a very over-looked aspect of all these expansion stories:

As for why this is all going down — our source says “everyone wants a playoff system … and this is the first step toward doing it.”

Damn right everyone (except for the fat cats on top of the food chain, and some douchebag idiot sellouts in the press) wants a playoff system. That really is the whole point of this expansion exercise. The era of the mega-conference will start putting pressure on the dinosaur that is the BCS to one day become extinct.

Because when you have these giant conferences, the winners of them will undoubtedly be much better teams than the conference champions of today. And with fewer conferences, matching these champions up in a playoff will seem much more organic and natural.

“WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY DO WE LIVE IN?” –Mike Gundy

Hopefully, a progressing one.
