This morning saw Purdue University announce that have extended men’s basketball coach Matt Painter another two years on his current deal. That means he’s now locked in at West Lafayette through the 2023-24 season.

“Matt Painter is a proven winner, and he wins with integrity,” reads a statement attributed to Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski.

“He has built a program that makes Boilermaker fans proud and embodies the very best of college athletics.”

Matt’s priorities and approach align perfectly with our values at Purdue and are evidenced by the success his players achieve on the court and in the classroom. We are excited for the future of Purdue men’s basketball under Matt’s continued leadership.”

Painter will also receive an increase in his compensation for the upcoming season from approximately $2.5 million to approximately $2.8 million, per the Journal-Courier. Last season, he was the 25th highest paid basketball coach in the country, per USA Today salary database.

The statement from Matt Painter reads:

“It is an honor, and I am extremely happy and proud to be the head coach at my alma mater. Purdue is a special place, and the commitment to the basketball program is apparent. I am equally appreciative of the commitment to me, and I am committed to this program, our players, our fans and this great institution. We will keep working to reach all of our goals on and off the court.”

Below you’ll find audio, in two portions, from the round table sessions with Matt Painter. This Q&A is NOT from the session when he was on dais that was televised. Interesting tidbit there that Carsen Edwards has taken the third most shots in school history.

We’ll have audio exclusives with the three players, Edwards, Ryan Cline and Grady Eifert, on Monday so check back here for that.
