Opponents pitching to Kris Bryant like they did to Barry Bonds

Knowing what I know of a good chunk of Chicago Cubs fans, it won’t be long before we see “Pitch to Kris Bryant” signs at Wrigley Field. There are a lot of Cubs fans who live their entire lives in social media mode; they amplify everything, good or bad, all the time. After all the second wave of Cubs super-prospects is actually supposed to be better than the first.

Even offline, there are many Cubs fans who react to everything in public as if they’re hiding behind the anonymity of the keyboard. So the next Kris Bryant overreaction is imminent. Especially since this next one is rooted in fact.

Cubs Assistant Hitting Coach Eric Hinske said that Kris Bryant is getting pitched to in a manner similar to Barry Bonds. Meaning he’s seeing only breaking stuff, and not receiving a lot of hittable pitches. As Ken Rosenthal pointed out in the interview below, this is certainly an exaggeration.

You can see the reaction of Kris Bryant in the video below. I would recommend skipping ahead to the 0:40 mark because the first part is nothing but cliche junk and platitudes about how awesome Jon Lester is and other very boring, pointless stuff.

All this Kris Bryant hoopla “seemed so wrong, but now it seems so right.” Apologies to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
