Saturday saw a couple of major Manchester United news stories drop, and both are related to the summer transfer window. The first item, in regards to goalkeeper David de Gea, brings a protracted transfer saga towards conclusion.

The other, involving striker Romelu Lukaku, is just the next chapter in a drawn out transfer narrative that could run all the way until deadline day. We’ll start with the Spaniard, who is now set to become the world’s highest paid goalkeeper.

According to multiple outlets, De Gea will sign a new six-year contract with the club Manchester worth around £117 million.

The Telegraph reports that the Spanish shot stopper will finalize a deal “which is believed to be worth around £375,000 a week, once he returns to Manchester from the tour.”

Thus ends any potential pursuit from Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, as De Gea now becomes United’s highest paid player.

Elsewhere, in today’s edition of “What’s going on with Romelu Lukaku?” Various media outlets are reporting that Inter Milan bid £54 million for the Belgian forward, but United rejected the offer.

Just yesterday, Inter boss Antonio Conte made it known just how important Lukaku is to his plans for his first season at his new club.

“I consider him a player who could improve our team,” the Inter boss said.

“On one side it is my hope and my will, on my other side we will see what we find with the club.”

“It’s not right to speak about the player in this moment because he is a Manchester United player and for this reason we must show great respect for the club and at the same time for the player and for my players.”
