Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata blogged again yesterday about his charity project Common Goal. The project, which German national team and Bayern Munich superstar Mats Hummels set up with him, sees the Spaniard donating one percent of his salary to a collective charity fund this season.

A handful of global footballers have joined the cause, including USWNT stars Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Today, Mata was able to welcome Chicago Fire star David Accam to the cause.

David Accam becomes the second Major League Soccer player, joining San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski, and the first Ghanaian player to sign on for this movement. “I’m very excited to join the Common Goal team and am looking forward to using the power of sport to make a positive impact,” reads a statement attributed to Accam.

“This sport has given me so many opportunities, and it’s important for me to give back. At the end of my career, I want people to remember me as much for the impact I had on their lives as they do for my soccer achievements.”
