The first half of Premier League competition for Chelsea this season could not have gone worse. It was also extremely non indicative of how the rest of the season has gone so far. Since that disastrous first half versus Burnley in which they outscored 3-0, the Blues have a goal differential of 12-2, achieving four wins and one draw.

Striker Alvaro Morata, who broke the club transfer fee record when he moved over from Real Madrid this summer, has been stellar. He’s provided the goals required in the absence of Diego Costa.

Morata and company are now third place in the table, three points behind the two Manchester clubs who reside at the top. Chelsea accomplished a very convincing 4-0 win at Stoke City yesterday, and Morata said the result “sent a good message to all the Premier League,” in a post entitled “In the Fight.”

“It’s football. Sometimes the ball doesn’t [go in], like against Arsenal, and today, we had two chances and made two goals,” Alvaro Morata said.

“We sent a good message to all the Premier League,’ added the 24-year-old. ‘Chelsea is in the fight for the title and it’s the thing that we want.”

“The most important thing is we won today. It’s a difficult place to come but we won and now we can look ahead to the Champions League.’”

Alvaro Morata brought up the Champions League in his quote, and indeed the Blues got off to an extremely impressive start in Europe, beating Qarabag FK 6-0. They will next clash with Atletico Madrid in three days. In six days, they’ll host Manchester City in league play.
