Henrikh Mkhitaryan Earns Third Start, Man of the Match Award

Just over a week ago, Manchester United’s big money summer transfer window acquisition Henrikh Mkhitaryan hadn’t played in three weeks. The £26 million acquisition had only featured six times during the season at that point and only once (in the Europa League versus Fenerbahce) since September 10th in the much over-hyped Manchester Derby.

At that point, Mkhitaryan had only one start on the season, and that came way back on September 10th versus Manchester City. By Thanksgiving, he had accrued just 105 minutes in total during this Premier League season.

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his concern that the media could be over-hyping youngster Ben Woodburn.

The Reds beat Leeds United 2-0 yesterday in the EFL CuP quarter-Finals, getting a goal from Woodburn, who is just 17 years and 45 days old. Woodburn became the youngest goal scorer in Liverpool history, surpassing Michael Owen, by 100 days.

“We know what Ben is capable of and what he is already able to do,” Jurgen Klopp said. “My first job is to help these boys so that they can be the best.”

Jose Mourinho Accepts FA Charges; Banned for One Match

UPDATE: the Football Association has officially charged Jose Mourinho, and he has accepted the charges. Jose Mourinho will serve a one match touchline ban for the incident this past Sunday.

The Special One is indeed showcasing some of the traits that we usually see in his so-called “third season syndrome.” Obviously, Mourinho thrives on drama and controversy. It is his well established modus operandi, and often it serves to rally the troops in an “us against them” mentality.

Derek Carr: Oakland Raiders Quarterback a NFL MVP Favorite

“When you have that kind of confidence in your quarterback, it changes the dynamics on your squad,” said NFL Network Analyst Bucky Brooks about Derek Carr. Brooks made the comment after watching Carr lead the Raiders to a comeback victory over the defending NFC Champion Carolina Panthers despite a dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand.

Yes, on his throwing hand.  Carr the’s primary reason that the Oakland Raiders stand tall at the top of the AFC playoff picture right now.

As we head into the fourth quarter of the season, Oaktown is right there with the New England Patriots in the battle for AFC supremacy and playoff home field supremacy.

Northwestern Basketball: Stronger Pre-Conference Slate Builds Resume

chris collins northwestern

Quite often, November and December college basketball is exactly like what M told James Bond near the beginning of Casino Royale: “All that energy for what? So that you could kill a nobody?”

Last year, Northwestern basketball went 12-1 in the pre-conference, getting off to a lightning fast 12-1 start. It eventually caught up to them as they finished the year 20-12. This season, it’s a very different story as Northwestern Basketball has played a much tougher schedule, and the results have been much more impressive.

Jurgen Klopp Concerned Media Could Over-Hype Ben Woodburn

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side eliminated Leeds United today in the EFL Cup, on their way to progressing to the tournament’s final four. They’ll find out their draw for the semi-finals late tomorrow night. The Reds beat Leeds 2-0, getting a goal from youngster Ben Woodburn, who is just 17 years and 45 days old.

We included the amount of days in that previous sentence because it’s relevant. Woodburn became the youngest goal scorer in the long illustrious history of LFC by a matter of 100 days (Michael Owen was the previous record holder).

United Want Revenge Against West Ham Says Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera is hoping that Manchester United will exact some revenge on West Ham United tomorrow night in the EFL Cup. Man United dominated all the stats in the stat sheet Sunday, but still ended up with a 1-1 draw that very much felt like a loss for the Red Devils.

It’s a very quick turnaround for the two sides who will obviously be quite familiar with each other, having just played a couple days ago. It sounds like United will be very motivated against the Hammers. They should be. Remember last season, down the final stretches when the Red Devils had a result in hand, but the Hammers snatched it way from them?

United dropped two points at home that they really should have had.

Jurgen Klopp Says Philippe Coutinho Absence Will Be No Excuse

Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday, but paid a tremendous price for that victory. After the game, there were fitness concerns for three key players- Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.

Coutinho, probably the Reds best individual player, made headlines earlier this week by stating his side’s Premier League title dreams this season. He’s right too, because Liverpool are a legitimate title contender and they should have bonafide league title dreams.

Chelsea FC: Currently Strong Premier League Title Favorites

chelsea transfer rumors

Chelsea FC are on fire right now. In their last seven Premier League matches they are 7-0 and 19-1 in goal differential. They have now leapfrogged Manchester City as title favorites. It’s just the opposite of last season when Chelsea were the favorites in preseason, and once they fell off the perch, Manchester City replaced them.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard says it’s only a three team race for the league title, and the bookies somewhat agree with him. The sports books seem to agree on which two teams as well.
