USWNT D Ali Krieger an Interesting Olympic Statistical Anomaly

Ali Krieger, who will be 32 when the Olympics begin, becomes the oldest first-time U.S. Olympian for women’s soccer. That seems like an odd statistical anomaly- how did this happen for a defender who has 90 caps with the United States National Team?

Krieger was an alternate in 2008 for Beijing, and would have made the 2012 London team, but she suffered an ACL tear during the qualifying tournament. Despite the lack of Olympic experience, Ali Krieger is very accomplished internationally. Krieger and company routed Japan to achieve the third star on the USWNT jersey last summer, representing America’s third World Cup title. That’s more than any other nation.

Alex Morgan game winner! U.S. edges Canada 4-3 in OT semifinal

With her game-winning goal, 23-year-old Alex Morgan became the youngest player to score 20 goals in one year for the U.S Women’s National soccer team.The young striker  scored her first goal since netting two in the opening game of pool play versus France. The prolific scorer ended her drought tonight as the U.S. edged Canada 4-3 in extra time.

Abby Wambach scored two goals and Alex Morgan netted the third in the second half as the U.S. Women’s National Team Shut out Canada.

Hope Solo DWTS Pics, Alex Morgan Talks Newfound Stardom

U.S. Women’s soccer was the water cooler talk of the summer just like Michael Phelps was the trending topic of summer 2008. The World Cup runner-up squad became new media darlings. Especially true for the team’s best player Abby Wambach, and the two extremely photogenic athletes, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan.

Alex Morgan and Hope Solo Reunite for First Time After World Cup

As you can see from the photo, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo tweeted out today, the media darlings of U.S. Women’s soccer got together today for the first time since the World Cup. They attended a Seattle Sounders MLB soccer match at Qwest Stadium; and they were joined by Solo’s partner on “Dancing with the Stars” Maksim Chmerkovskiy (did I spell that right? I hope so)

You remember him? He was once rumored to be dating Erin Andrews. Lucky Bastard!

For the past week or so, she’s been America’s collective crush. And when she scored the goal that put the USA up 1-0 over Japan in the World Cup Final, she became a household name. Unfortunately, we lost that match on penalty kicks. Had we won, then a new star would have truly been born yesterday.
