Orange Bowl rep to NIU: “We didn’t want you here” (Huskies don’t prove him wrong)

It appears ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has a soul mate. Or at least someone who shares his feelings that the NIU Huskies don’t belong in the BCS Orange Bowl. During the selection show he called their placement “a joke.” Can’t Northern Illinois get any respect? I guess the nation’s longest winning streak and back to back 11 win seasons don’t count for much. Then again losing to a 4-8 Iowa Hawkeyes team doesn’t help. NIU entered the Orange Bowl as two touchdown underdogs to Florida State. But the Noles barely escaped a 6-6 Georgia Tech team to get here, and lost to a mediocre N.C. St team.

And couldn’t the Orange Bowl have shown some some respect and class?

#37 Washington Huskies: College Football 77 in 77

The Washington Huskies are back to respectability. Back to back bowl appearances and 7-6 seasons makes them improved from where they were, but when will they take the next step? Is Steve Sarkisian the guy to get them there? He’s definitely done alright so far, but this team team is still a far cry from Stanford or Oregon in the Pac 12 North. Especially with that porous defense.

But they have one thing going for them that the pro team in Seattle does not- resolution at the quarterback position. While the Seahawks will have to figure it out between Russell Wilson, Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Flynn, the Huskies have Keith Price, one of the best in the nation.

#52 UConn Huskies: College Football 77 in 77

Usually in Storrs, college football is a placeholder, an opening act before the college basketball season begins. However, this year the academic rating is so low for UConn hoops that they’re not allowed to participate in the NCAA Tournament. Therefore, they’ll have to be a football school this year. LOL!

Actually the Connecticut Huskies have come a long way since going division I. They have been to a BCS bowl already. Which was a financial and on-the-field disaster, but still. This year they could finish anywhere from 4-8 to 8-4.
