#54 Kansas State Wildcats: College Basketball 111 in 111

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

It is still one of the strangest off-season occurrences in my opinion; Frank Martin leaving Kansas State for South Carolina.  Fired Illinois head coach Bruce Weber lands in Manhattan and to be blunt, needs to prove the last few years of underachieving with the Illini wasn’t due to his poor coaching before I can pick the Wildcats to be anything but an average Big 12 team.

#97 South Carolina Gamecocks: College Basketball 111 in 111

How the South Carolina Gamecocks lured Frank Martin away from Kansas State is still one of the great mysteries of this college basketball off-season.  Martin will certainly have his work cut out for him since the Gamecocks lost three starters from last year’s team that finished dead last in the SEC.

#45 Kansas State Wildcats: College Basketball 111 in 111

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Ranked third in the 2010-2011 preseason polls, the Kansas State Wildcats failed to live up to the lofty expectations last year.  They lost four of their first five Big 12 games but were able to pull it together at the end of the season before bowing out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  This year, Kansas State goes back to being an under the radar team.

Wisconsin Nips the Wildcats 70-65: NCAA 3rd Round Rapid Reaction

Jordan Taylor didn’t have his best game shooting (2-of-16), but came through in the end with the biggest block of his life as the #4 Wisconsin Badgers defeated the #5 Kansas State Wildcats 70-65 in another March Madness thriller.

The Wildcats Jacob Pullen scored a crazy game-high 38 points and became Kansas State’s all-time scoring leader, but it wasn’t enough because Taylor’s rejection of Pullen’s last shot has the Badgers dancing all the way to the Sweet 16.

College Hoops 101 (11-15-10)

TCU football

I have discovered a dangerous tool that will immensely help my college basketball viewing this season.  Last year my cable provider did not let me access ESPN360.com.  This year, I can successfully get ESPN3.com as it is now called.  EUREKA!

This is scary on so many levels.  Not only can I now multi-task and watch two games at once, but I can also catch any ESPN televised game I want at any time with the replay tool.  This is like locking a sex addict in a room with ten naked girls and telling him to behave himself.

If you are unfamiliar with College Hoops 101, it is a weekly feature here at The Sports Bank that runs every Monday and breaks down everything you need to know going on in the world of college hoops.  I will look back at the previous week and peak ahead to some of the key match-ups in the next seven days.  In case you missed it, be sure to check out my first Field of 68 (aka Bracketology) in which I predict the NCAA Tournament brackets and all of my in-depth team previews.
