Former NBA MVP Dirk Nowitzki is enjoying his offseason. The Dallas Mavericks are still reigning league champions for a little while longer and Dirk was a champion on stage with Folk Rock group the Avett Brothers, at a show in Grand Prairie, Texas.

AskMen.com published their sixth annual Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2011 list today. More than 200,000 readers voted- leading to some unexpected results.
NFL Player and University of Michigan alum Tom Brady (New England Patriots) is #42, the only NFL player to make the list. Notably missing from last year’s Top 49 is Drew Brees. The Purdue grad who ranked in at No. 6. I’m surprised that Brady is so low; especially when you consider how every media personality feels the need to mention how awesome is life is every time they mention his name.
And it’s true- not every one of guys gets the chance to be obscenely wealthy, ridiculously famous, good looking, in perfect physical health and married to a supermodel. So really #42, that’s it?

Schadenfreude is pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. This notoriously untranslatable German word is used as a loanword in English, and it perfectly encapsulates what American NBA fans feel today after the Dallas Mavericks denied the Miami Heat the league title.
I guess it’s fitting the Finals MVP (Dirk Nowitzki) who did them in was a native of Wurzburg, Germany.
Schadenfreude is running rampant as the rest of the nation picks up the Cleveland vibe of laughing at Lebron James and celebrating his failure. After the final buzzer sounded, “Lebron James Fail” and “Miami Heat Fail” were quickly trending in the search engines.
And there’s plenty of good reason. Winning 58 games and the Eastern Conference title (as James and the Heat did) is a very successful season. But given all the world-must-revolve-around-me hoopla and preseason braggadocio leading into this season- anything short of winning it all in Miami=epic failure.

Well, I guess we know who took the “talent vs. team” argument. It’s hard not to bring up “The Decision” and the utterly stupid Miami Heat what should have been a press conference but instead became an absurdly pre-emptive and arrogant pseudo-championship rally. It’s not Key Lime, but instead humble pie that’s being served in south Florida right now.
Wade at that rally: “arguably the greatest trio to ever play basketball together.”
My response to Dwyane, to quote Barack Obama describing Kanye West after the Taylor Swift VMA incident: “well, he’s a jackass.”
-Yes Dirk Nowitzki, the pride of Wurzbrug Germany, had a HORRIBLE shooting game, but he made some key buckets down the stretch. Did you see that Lebron? A former MVP EXCELLING in crunch time, not shrinking from it.
-17 years, and Jason Kidd finally gets his title. He’s walking lesson for you youngsters out there in perseverance and dedication.

CENTURY MARK in this finals! Finally a game with a real legit NBA final score. Yes, this was by far the best game to watch of the series, and one of the best Finals games in a long while. This lived up to all the hype! And I loved it because America’s Non-Team lost. Everyone I follow on Twitter seems to be Dallas Mavericks fans, but they’re actually just anyone-who’s-playing-the Miami Heat fans.
-Two points for Lebron James in the 4th quarter? Again a no-show in the final stanza! a decisive swing game five in the NBA Finals, the biggest stage, and this is what you get? He has eleven total points in the 4th quarter of this series’ 5 games 11! SERIOUSLY. Best player in the league MY ASS! And as for the Lebron-MJ comparisons…see graphic above.
-That was the first time since Jan. 5, 2007 that LeBron James was held below double-digits. It’s the first time in 90 NBA playoff games that James was held to single digits. We witnessed history! Welcome to the Good Life! Summertime ahhhhhhh. The Dallas Mavericks are back in this, we don’t have to concede a title to the Miami Heat just yet.
-I hope a reporter asked Lebron about his non-existence in the 2nd quarter. (Wade and James had zero points in the quarter until the final minutes of the second stanza) Asking LBJ about 4th quarter disappearance is so cliche and 2010.
-Only once (1956) was there a closer total margin through four games in an NBA Finals. That series was a cumulative of 11. This series has seen a point differential of just 15 so far. Mostly, all four games have been ugly and blah, but the finishes have been sublime and transcendent.
-Chris Bosh had 16 at halftime, and finished 9-19 form the field. Dwyane Wade was 13-20 and Miami loses? That’s a GREAT sign for the Mavericks.

The Miami Heat had the Dallas Mavericks on the ropes in game two of the NBA Finals. And had they held on it would have been the likely end of the series. Would Dallas go quietly into that good night. 2006 MVP and German national Dirk Nowitzki’s game said NEIN!! He then owned the velociraptor resembling Chris Bosh with a three and hook shot that said DAS IS SEHR GUT!
-Why do I feel that when typing German phrases I need to YELL them by typing in ALL CAPS!
-Not to sound Captain Obvious, but what an ending! Heat blow a 15 point lead to finally lose a postseason home game, Dallas UBER ALLES! Dirk went 10-22, 24 and 11, a great bounce back game. And what a huge win this game was for the city of Cleveland.

Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks are proving they are no fluke in the Western Conference semifinals, taking a commanding 3-0 lead over the former two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.
“Beat L.A.” was the chant Friday night that energized the Mavericks to a 98-92 decision in Game 3 on their hardwood at the sold out American Airlines Center. Nowitzki capped off the night with 32 points and nine rebounds. Jason Terry and Peja Stojakovic added a total of 38 points.
