Boom Goes the Dynamite Kid Gets Another Chance!


Boom goes the dynamite is the nickname given to a college media at Ball State University in March 2005. The sometimes hard to watch (due to his long stretches of silence and awkward noises) became an internet sensation. Then took off in the mainstream media.

Covering the March 22nd, 2005 NBA game between the Indiana Pacers and the New Jersey Nets, sportscaster Brian Collins utters the phrase that pays “boom goes the dynamite” as Pacer two guard Fred Jones nails a 3-pointer. Collins goes on to incorrectly give the final score as Pacers 63 – Nets 61 (which was the score with 3:42 remaining in the third quarter); the final score was actually Pacers 91 – Nets 98.

Collins was a part-time fill in. And on the night of this fateful broadcast, an inexperienced teleprompter operator accidentally fast-forwarded the script, leaving Collins with only an occasional few words to use.

And now comedian Daniel Tosh is giving Collins another chance.
