Julie Johnston, Eagles Zach Ertz: Wedding Plans Update

United States Women’s National Team Defender Julie Johnston and Philadelphia Eagles Tight End Zach Ertz got engaged a few weeks ago; thereby creating a new sports power couple.

They’re both so busy that they haven’t had much time for actual wedding planning. They certainly won’t be able to get the wedding in until long after Johnston plays in the Rio Summer Olympics or Ertz’s 2016 NFL season with the Eagles.

The sports power couple met at a baseball game at Ertz’s alma mater, Stanford. Hence the SU baseball stadium was the backdrop for where Ertz would get down on one knee and propose.

No date for the ceremony has been set, but the finalist for 2015 FIFA Golden Ball Award has been busy trying to wedding plan wherever and whenever she can during her very limited free time.

“That’s what I’m doing on my breaks,” Julie Johnston exclusively told The Sports Bank at Chicago Red Stars Media Day.

“When I’m not working out or training, that’s what I’m doing (wedding planning). We’re trying to make it wrap around his season and my season, and it’s been a little difficult, but we’ll find a time.”

The USWNT will defend their 2015 World Cup title in Brazil this August with hopes of becoming the first women’s team to ever win the World Cup followed immediately by an Olympic gold medal the next year. The Olympics run August 5th-21st.

Johnston’s Red Stars are 1-1 thus far in the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League season. The lock down defender was named to the NWSL Best XI team last year.

“It’s going to take awhile to figure it out, but it’s not set in stone yet,” she said about potential wedding dates.

The event will be held sometime in 2017, at the absolute earliest.

“Not even this year, we’re not even looking in this ballpark right now. There’s no time,” Johnston continued.
