Leave it to the Redskins to not even play a game and still garner hatred.
Maybe the bye week gave the fans an idea of what a Sunday with good football looks like. Or maybe people just had a lot more time on their hands. Regardless, yesterday morning a new movement was set into motion that will likely have all of Redskin nation buzzing this week.
The debut of Braves on the Warpath! Oh, wait, sorry. That’s not it.
What I’m talking about is the “turn in your fan card” movement. What is this movement? Well, you can get all the details here, on the official message board of the Redskins, which is surprising considering you can’t even bring a sign honoring fallen players into Fed Ex Field.
The fan cards each have a message which reads in part (sic):
“This is my symbolic “Fan Card” for the Washington Redskins. I am returning this to the current ownership of a once proud franchise. Your actions since taking over the team have been unacceptable.
This gesture is a direct message to Daniel M. Snyder, and everyone else who works for the Washington Redskins. I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS ANY LONGER! While you have already collected millions of dollars for tickets and parking this year. I will no longer purchase anything that will directly or indirectly put my hard earned money into your pockets.”
The full message is on the card. Fans are instructed to print out the card, and then mail it in to Daniel Snyder. Which is pretty much the same thing Jim Zorn is doing now.
The addresses of various media outlets, including the Washington Times, are included in the original post, so I will do my best to get someone from the Times to tell me if they’ve received a lot of cards as well.
We here at Braves on the Warpath neither support nor condemn the fan card movement. What we will say is that fans are in no way abandoning the team if they decide to participate in this symbolic gesture. It’s essentially booing on paper.
