During the week leading into the NFL Draft, we incessantly heard rumors linking the Philadelphia Eagles into the Tennessee Titans #2 overall draft slot, therefore making it possible for Chip Kelly to select his former quarterback Marcus Mariota.
What a great setup that would be- Kelly leading his protege once again and the perfect “system QB” playing in the system perfect for him.
Obviously, it didn’t happen, but now that Chip Kelly and Philadelphia have parted ways, plus the fact that Tennessee is a complete s#$show right now, why not roll the dice here and start all over again?
Not sound like a bad Nashville amateur signer in a dive bar honky tonk but when there’s nothing, there’s also nothing to lose. We need to see a Mariota-Kelly reunion.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on potential changes with the Tennessee Titans:
“My understanding is Ruston Webster, the long-time general manager of the Tennessee Titans, is very much at risk of not returning in 2016. We know they already made a coaching change early on with removing Ken Whisenhunt. Now it is possible they clean house completely. When I talked to a high-ranking Titans source about this, the logic was simple: we’ve won five games in the last two years, everyone is at risk, we have to evaluate everything.
This does make the mind wander a little bit. What if there is a certain coach, maybe in Philadelphia, who might want to play for a quarterback he knows, say Marcus Mariota, and would have the possibility of coming in and getting control of personnel. It does make you think a little bit.”
“Chip Kelly the coach is telling Chip Kelly the general manager, ‘Hey you messed up in signing this player and spending all that money.’ I think what Chip Kelly is finding is this isn’t Eugene, Oregon anymore.” – Brian Billick on the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
Think of how fun it would be to watch a Chip Kelly offense in the NFL with Mariota guiding it? It doesn’t matter what team you’re a fan of that point. All of football wins if this were to actually come to fruition.
