Chicago Bears cut ex-Buckeye Dane Sanzenbacher

Dane Sanzenbacher

The Chicago Bears have decided to part ways with their homeless man’s version of Wes Welker, a guy known for wearing bolo ties while in college at Ohio State.

Sanzenbacher played in just four games this year totaling a WHOPPING one reception for seven yards. He had a better rookie year last season, appearing in 16 games, 27 receptions on 54 targets, 276 yards and three touchdowns.

The big change came when the Bears fired the neurotic Mike Martz and instead installed Mike Tice as offensive coordinator. Martz used the slot receiver a lot more (and also killed the quarterback), while Tice’s offense doesn’t. Well it still fails to protect Jay Cutler. Also signing Brandon Marshall and drafting Alshon Jeffrey cut down Sanzenbacher’s playing time.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent from the Buckeyes. As a senior in 2010, Sanzenbacher caught 55 passes for 948 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’ll probably catch on now with a team that has no passing game/receivers, like the Minnesota Vikings
