Modafinil is a wakefulness-promoting substance part of the benzhydryl class. It was initially designed to help people suffering from sleep-related disorders such as narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea or shift work sleep disorder. Doctors commonly prescribe it as Provigil and people who suffer from ADHD self-medicate with it.
