It was one of the biggest PR disasters in the history of Western Civilization. At least from an image management perspective. Whoever green-lighted “The Decision” hopefully lost his/her job, and made Lebron James look like the douchiest man alive (or at least in the NBA) for 2010.
And James is finally coming to terms for the way he stabbed the Cleveland Cavaliers in the back when he announced his decision to sign with the Miami Heat.
Here’s what he told the media last night, after his Heat eliminated the Celtics in 5.
“I knew I had to go through Boston at some point. I went through a lot signing to be here… The way it panned out with all the friends & family & fans back home, I apologize for the way it happened. This was the opportunity of lifetime”
Wow! this is a big step forward from that “what should I do?” nonsense. He later added:
“As much as I loved my teammates back in Cleveland, as much as I loved home, I knew I couldn’t do it by myself against that team.”
So there you go, Lebron admits he could never win a title, or at least beat this Boston Celtics team, if he were the only star on his team. You could extrapolate further and say that this quote verifies what I said last summer- that Lebron realized he won’t win a title where he’s the best player on the team, or at least head and shoulders above everyone else. So he left to a place where he could second (or close to second) banana.
