โIn New York you can be a new man. In New York you can be a new man.โ Itโs one of the more catchy lines from the title song to Hamilton, a musical absolutely owning Chicago right now.
Hamilaria has actually spread far beyond just the Windy City, as #HamilDocPBS was the #1 trending term nationally on Twitter all of Friday night.
Itโs not New York where Dwyane Wade will seek his reinvention though. Itโs the second city. Former Bulls Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah are the players with which that lyric actually applies.
Reggie Miller, franchise icon of one of the Bulls former quasi-rivals, the Indiana Pacers is now an Analyst with Turner Sports. He did a media conference call to preview the upcoming season.
โIt is about reinventing yourself. I wouldnโt be surprised if Fred Hoiberg is going to have to do a better job of managing his minutes,โ he said of Dwyane Wade on the call.
โHeโs going to have to do a better job of practice minutes and game minutes. He could put D-Wade at point guard because of his penetration to be more of a facilitator.
โBecause of his ability to break down the defense, his vision as a shooting guard, I wouldnโt be surprised if he could be a back up point guard to Rondo and a second unit when Rondo goes to the bench. But you have to be committed to that.โ
Indeed that is the A Block story line of this Chicago Bulls season- how will the supposed three alphas, D. Wade, Rajon Rondo and Jimmy Butler coexist? There will be shooters aplenty, but who will be selfless enough to throw away their shot opportunities when the situation dictates?
Someone will need to rise up, and then pass up those shot attempts. Otherwise, one of those guards is getting moved out of town.
Whether or not he stays likely depends on how he works well with Wade, who again is all about reinvention this upcoming season.
Grant Hill, who was on the same call discussed playing NBA basketball on the wrong side of 35, and whether or not Dwyane Wade can reinvent his game:
โIt is possible. It is great that he is thinking along those line. From my own personal experience, be cognizant of what you eat, rest, the weight roomโฆit is a full effort that is necessary to extend your career and have longevity. And he is transitioning and playing a different role.
โIt is possible. I think he has something down on the low block. All of his years as an All-Star, he has become more efficient. He doesnโt have to use his athleticism down the court to beat you but rather use his intellect.โ
