With Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal’s number two man at Manchester United, now being linked to the vacancy at Swansea City, the topic came up at Van Gaal’s press conference today previewing tomorrow’s Bournemouth fixture. A reporter asked Van Gaal asked about the situation, if there was any truth to it and how it might affect the club and everything he’s built there if it were true.

Van Gaal’s response:

“First I have to speak with Ryan Giggs when it is true, and i think then he is coming to me, and I never read papers and think it is the truth, I’m sorry.”

The reporter then followed up by asking how of an impact a Ryan Giggs departure would make

“I cannot speak about if, the if situations,” LVG answered.

This prompted the United Press officer to give her always stern “last question,” in her usual hard-line manner. These pressers can easily go on forever, and easily evolve into dialogue about what’s on the transfer pages.

You can watch the video of the presser here at this link, the Ryan Giggs talk is around the 5 minute mark.

Therefore, she’s pretty tough at these sessions. Beyond Ryan Giggs, there’s been plenty of United stress and strife in the tabloid sheets these past couple days.

For example The Times: “Manager Louis van Gaal is facing growing resentment in the Manchester United dressing room about his tactics after taking Juan Mata off at Wolfsburg.”

Or in The Sun: “Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and his players believed their dressing room at Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena was too warm on Tuesday night.”

And also the Daily Mail, which brings us actual facts and brutal honesty here: “There is not a single Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea player in the Premier League team of the season so far.”
