Jurgen Klopp hints towards hitting the transfer market

Jurgen Klopp said previously that this was going to be a very quiet January transfer window at Liverpool. Of course, that was before Dejan Lovren went down with an injury tonight. The Reds paid a price for their 1-0 victory at Stoke City today as Lovren’s absence, combined with injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Philippe Coutinho, left them with just one fit center-back, Kolo Toure.

To top it all off, Toure was plagued by cramps late in tonight’s contest.

“In this moment with no centre-back fit I would say it is a situation where we have to think about going into the transfer market,” Jurgen Klopp said after the game.

“Two weeks ago we had three centre-backs, that’s a good situation, at the start of the season we had five, now we have none.”

Klopp’s previous comments implied that they might make just one signing this January transfer window, and indeed there is already one acquisition on the board, Marko Grujic. Here’s more on him.

“I don’t say it too often but I was really angry last week but now I’m proud because we have reacted so well in such a difficult game in all parts,” Klopp said.

“Before the game if somebody had told us draw we would taken it, so 1-0, we are happy. Of course with the injuries it is not perfect, two injuries it is not good.

“A big shadow for us were the injuries which don’t look too good. We will have to wait for this, I don’t know how serious, but it is not such good news.”

So what will Liverpool do now? Their next game is Friday night, so it’s time for Jurgen Klopp to look at doing some transfer business.
