If you are searching for a new hobby to help you unwind and relax, golf might be the perfect option for you. There are plenty of benefits associated with playing golf such as social interaction and connection, and health benefits such as mental clarity and reduced risk of certain health issues.

If you are still undecided, here are five reasons why you should consider taking up golf as your new hobby.

1. Social Interaction

One of the most prominent reasons why golf is a great hobby is the fact that it is excellent for social interaction. If you are looking for new friends or just want to get out of the house once in a while, golf is the perfect way to make new friends away from home. Some areas have golf groups, the local golf club is a good place to start if you want to find out the best times to play to meet new people.

2. Reduced Anxiety

Any sporting activity that encourages you to walk and move the body is a great remedy for anxiety. Golf involves a lot of walking and walking is known to reduce anxiety. Studies suggest that even a 30-minute walk daily can relieve your stress and ease anxiety.

Physical activity releases feel-good endorphins that are known for reducing pain, elevating the mood, thus facilitating the regulation of cortisol and adrenaline.

Just pick up your Sunday golf bag and spend the day playing golf and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

3. Mental Clarity

Playing golf can help to clear the mind, when you spend a few hours playing a round of golf, you will most certainly go home with a clear mind. Playing golf will distract you from overthinking and release your negative emotions, as you move through the golf course, you will begin to feel less emotionally heavy and much lighter. Golf breaks are a great way to reset. Golf trips to Ireland and the UK in particular offer breathtaking views and scenery to help you unwind.

4. Boosts Cognitive Ability

Any activity that utilises problem-solving skills will most definitely boost your cognitive ability and golf is no exception. Try to play a round of golf at least once per week to reduce stress, improve your memory and improve your hand-eye coordination.

5. Healthy Heart

If you want a healthy heart, you have to exercise. In the modern world, we tend to spend more time sitting, watching movies and working on computers. Therefore, physical activity is vital for a healthy heart. Playing golf is a fun way to get more exercise as a typical 18-hole round of golf burns a minimum of 1000 calories. Regular cardiovascular exercise helps to strengthen the heart and the cardiovascular system in general.

As you can see, golf is a great hobby, it will give you the chance to meet new friends and take part in social activities. It is also great for boosting mental clarity, reducing anxiety, stress and for boosting cognitive ability.

Playing golf just once a week will help you to burn at least 1000 calories per week therefore, it is the perfect hobby for anyone who is trying to incorporate more physical activity into their life.
