You can pick your slang phrase to describe what Troy Deeney has just done to the Arsenal F.C. of Arsene Wenger- thrown shade at, talked trash about, put on blast.
No matter the choice in descriptive prose, it was certainly one harsh critique by the Watford team Captain and striker. He didn’t break any new ground, or say anything that hasn’t already been said of Wenger’s Gunners, but this time it’s a current player saying it. It’s an opponent who just vanquished then yesterday in brutal, soul-crushing fashion.
Troy Deeney said Arsenal lacks cojones, and if you don’t know exactly what that means, it’s a term with many synonyms, and you know it by another name, depending on what your cultural background is. Cajones are basically: chutzpah, balls, stones, heart, soul, grit, toughness, fortitude, moxie etc.
Usually, these comments are made by a former player turned television pundit (looking to make a loud, strong opinion and call added attention to himself), or hard core Gooners in the #WengerOut crowd with their pitchforks out on social media.
To hear it from a current Premier League star player, one who just bested them no less, is certainly news-worthy.

“I have to watch what I say, but it’s [having] a bit of cojones, is what I’ll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I’ll go up and think, ‘Let me whack the first one and see who wants it.’
“I came on today and jumped up with Mertesacker — I didn’t even have to jump, actually — I nodded it down, the crowd gets up, ‘Yeah, we’ve got somebody who can win it,’ and they all just backed off.
“For me as a player, I just think, ‘Happy days.’ That’s my strength — if you’re going to let me do my strength against you, you’re going to have a tough afternoon.”
Just brutal there! Wow!
