Bruno Fernandes Reveals His Move to Tottenham Hotspur Was Blocked

Bruno Fernandes was potentially on course to join Manchester United, until Old Trafford scouts decided they actually didn’t really like what they saw in him. Fernandes was finalizing a move to Real Madrid, to be announced on summer transfer window deadline day, but nothing has been verified or announced, and we only have four hours left until the window shuts.

He had also agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur, until his current club, Sporting Lisbon, blocked it. Poor Bruno Fernandes, it appears that there just might be no escape for him. At least until January.

Madrid did make one transfer announcement today however:

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola comes over from Paris Saint-Germain, with Keylor Navas moving in the opposite direction. As for Fernandes and that move to Tottenham, the midfielder opened up to GQ Portugal.

“As you all know, Tottenham made a lot of proposals for me. Everything was right with me – or practically should be,” he said.

“I never made any big demands, my manager was always dealing with the financials. It was and is my goal to play in England, Sporting you know that, everyone knows that, and there were conditions for things to be done.”

“But Sporting understood that the value was not enough and I have to respect the decision.”

If things change in the 11th hour and Fernandes does get his move to the Spanish capital, then it certainly rules out the chances of Tottenham winger Christian Eriksen moving over.

Eriksen, linked with a move to both United and Madrid this summer, has publicly clamored for an exit, but it seems he’ll be staying put.
