Why Paul Pogba Dabbed at the Munich Air Disaster Commemoration

Young and flashy Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard both came under fire for something they did during the Munich Air Disaster commemoration service at Old Trafford yesterday. Both were vindicated after closer examination of their acts, which seemed rather offensive upon first glance.

Tuesday marked the 60th anniversary of the Munich tragedy, when the Manchester United team plane crashed upon its third attempt at take off, leading to the deaths of 23 people, more than half of those on board. A serious and somber service was held at Old Trafford (video of that here), and during the commemoration, a tweet (probably corporate promotional) about video games went off on Jesse Lingard’s official account.

It was one of Lingard’s handlers who made the tweet, but the forward has since taken full responsibility and apologized whole-heartedly. As for Paul Pogba, he was photo-graphed outside Old Trafford after the memorial service dabbing, and it led to incendiary reaction on social media.

However, it turns out that he was simply having fun with a well known kid named Alex Nield, with whom he has always done the dance routine. Alex, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and his father Jon, often attend United matches all over the world and have met many United players, both past and present. All in all, Paul Pogba, along with teammate Juan Mata, made young Alex’s day.

Mata provided very poignant and powerful commentary on the Munich air disaster ahead of the service. Read those remarks here.
