During his time at Manchester United, attacking midfielder Marouane Fellaini has slowly but surely won over the Red Devils fan base, who took awhile to warm to him. Now that he is valued and appreciated by supporters, he could be on the move when his contract expires.
According to a report by ESPN FC, Fellaini “turned down United’s initial contract offer in September” and manager Jose Mourinho “is facing a battle to keep” him.
The Belgian’s contract expires at the end of the season and if a contract extension cannot be reached by the end of the calendar year 2017, the 29-year-old will be allowed to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with non England clubs.
In the 1-0 loss at Chelsea on Sunday, Fellaini finally returned from an injury that he suffered during the last international break. He’s been a long time favorite of manager Jose Mourinho, who gave extensive praise to his performance last weekend.
If Fellani does hit the open market there will definitely be a ton of interest in him. He has previously been linked to a pair of clubs in both Italy and Turkey. His contract extension deal isn’t the only piece of paper work that his lawyers are currently working on. News just broke on Monday that Fellaini is currently in litigation against footwear maker New Balance.
