United Target, Tottenham Back Toby Alderweireld Uncertain About Club Future

Tottenham Hotspur defender and Manchester United target Toby Alderweireld has admitted that he is uncertain about his future on the club level. The Belgian international has seen contract extension talks with his current club break down, but he hasn’t ruled out a stay at White Hart Lane.

“Yeah, why not?” he responded when asked whether or not he could stay on longer with Spurs.

“I have two years left on my contract. I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Alderweireld, who has a £25 million release clause in his contract, is currently with Belgium in Russia for the 2018 World Cup. United had reportedly hoped to wrap up a deal to acquire him before he left for the tournament, but the two sides are apparently still miles apart in negotiations for the sale price.

United have bought one defender already this summer transfer window, FC Porto’s Diogo Dalot. Alderweireld is not the only Spurs back that United have been linked to in transfer rumors, as manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in obtaining England international Danny Rose as well.

Alderweireld and Belgium, who routed Costa Rica in their final tournament warm up match, open their World Cup campaign Saturday against Portugal.
