Paul Pogba Reportedly Set for Manchester United Contract Extension Talks

Paul Pogba is most certainly a polarizing figure, with Manchester United club legend Paul Scholes blasting him only two days ago. While Scholes sees Pogba’s potential sale as no big deal to get upset about, the club itself has a starkly contrasting view of the French midfielder.

According to an ESPN report today, United are set to meet with Pogba’s “agent Mino Raiola to discuss a contract extension in the coming weeks.” This report comes amid rumors linking the Frenchman with a move to Real Madrid. Pogba, re-acquired from Juventus in 2016 for a then record £89.3 million transfer fee, has two years left on his deal with a club option for a third.

Pogba openly pined for a move away from Old Trafford this summer, and Scholes believes the time is right to let him move on. (He also gave a strong take on the status of the current attacking unit)

“I think it’s quite clear he wants to leave the club,” Scholes said to talkSPORT.

“He wanted to move to Real Madrid [in the summer] and for whatever reason it didn’t happen.

“If they ask him to stay for a year then we’ll see what happens. But I don’t think it will be a big loss to United [if he does go].

“At the end of the day his form hasn’t been great anyway over the last three or three years he’s been there.

“I’m sure there’s more players there who can step in and do just as good a job.”

Of course, moving to Real Madrid brings with it a new set of problems, as that club could be undergoing a managerial switch in the near future. Former United manager Jose Mourinho has been linked as a potential Zinedine Zidane replacement, and if that were to actually happen, well, it would nix the idea of Pogba moving to the Spanish capital.
