Manchester United midfielder and Vice-Captain Michael Carrick has seen a lot during his long, storied Old Trafford career. Currently, his future is in doubt. He’s also admitted that after 10 years at Old Trafford, this could be his last season with the club. Yes, the season is over and Carrick still doesn’t have a new contract in place.

He’s also seen his team take a significant turn down from where they were in his heyday.

According to the Daily Star, Carrick “would consider performing a U-turn and remaining at Manchester United if Louis van Gaal gets sacked.”

Of the teams that could or would be interested in Carrick, Everton has joined the fray, according to the Express.

Previously, Arsenal and West Ham United have both been linked to the 34-year-old midfielder.

The decline of the club began after Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and it’s continued under Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman’s drab style is unentertaining, both to players and fans, and it could affect player recruitment and retention. It also doesn’t help that United missed out on top four, and hence don’t have UEFA Champions League to sell as a recruiting tool anymore to potential new players.

Of course, they are still and always will be printing money over at Old Trafford so you don’t need to worry about the club not having money to spend on big salaries for top notch transfer targets. But again, maybe Van Gaal needs to be replaced by Jose Mourinho, or somebody else, in order to lure in the best new additions this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, “Manchester United fear missing out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to the playing style of Louis van Gaal scaring away top transfer targets.” Aubameyang has long been considered the player at the top of the United summer transfer window wish list.
