Marcus Rashford Wants More Playing Time; Faces Uncertain Future at MUFC

It’s possible that both the first and second team strikers from the 2016-17 Manchester United team that won two tournaments (League Cup, Europa League) won’t be around when the next season begins in August. According to various reports, Marcus Rashford is now weighing up his options for this summer, as the young Englishman seeks a destination that could provide him regular first team football.

A big name forward was acquired by Old Trafford in the last two transfer windows (Romelu Lukaku last summer, Alexis Sanchez in January) thus making for a much more crowded squad in the final third.

If Rashford is to move on, where might he go? William hill and other bookmakers are already taking action on his destination. Real Madrid seems to be a very popular narrative in the tabloids right now, but the current favorite, among the sports books is Arsenal. Of course, a loan move abroad could make for a more ideal situation, with the Bundesliga, perhaps even Borussia Dortmund, providing a potentially optimal solution.

United would obviously rather send Rashford abroad over selling him to a league rival. Multiple outlets claim that the 20-year-old is unsettled; reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with his role as a substitute. Rashford has made 43 appearances this season but only 22 of those have come via the first team.

His only action in the Manchester derby came when he was subbed on very late in the thrilling 3-2 comeback win.

Rashford has started only five of the last 16 games for United. Additionally, he has seen his minutes per game average this season dip by seven.

More from the Daily Mirror:

“Marcus was really unhappy with being left out for the derby,” the club source told Mirror Football.“If Mourinho is still there next season, Marcus might not be, as he wants to start every game.”

Mourinho has recently defended his handling of the young forward amid criticism and questioning, stating: “I try to give the best to him.

“If you go to his numbers and see how many matches he played last season and this with me, I would say he’s in the top five players with matches in the two seasons.”

While this is all uncertain, we do know for sure, teams all across Europe would be extremely interested as this is the most productive season he’s had in his young career. Rashford has shown a knack for scoring big time goals in the biggest games.
