Who will Louis van Gaal set as his starting lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday? It’s once again Manchester United Starting XI prediction time. Well, the Daily Star claims that Louis van Gaal will use a behind-closed-doors match to determine whether wantaway goalkeeper David de Gea or new signing Sergio Romero will start the season opener.
So take that idea for what it’s worth. Immediately following United’s final preseason match, Van Gaal said that one of the four defender spots in up for grabs. (More on that here)
Memphis Depay Wayne Rooney
Ashley Young Bastian Schweinsteiger Morgan Schneiderlin Juan Mata
Luke Shaw Daley Blind Chris Smalling Matteo Darmian
David De Gea
It’s the same line-up (4-4-2) as we saw in the final preseason friendly versus Paris Saint Germain, except we subbed Schneidelrin for Michael Carrick and Smalling for Jones. The other idea we had for a Manchester United starting XI was a 4-2-3-1, with the same back four, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger in the middle, Rooney up front and Young, Mata and Fellaini on the wing. Go here to take a look at how that one would look.
